Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I park?

There are many places to park nearby, we recommend the free parking at the large gravel parking lot just passed Ramp 4, Homer Harbor.

** The Spit gets very crowded in the summer and parking is not always easy to find! Please keep that in mind so you can meet us on time.

Where will I find the boat?

You’ll find us near the bottom of Ramp 3 at the Homer Boat Harbor. We’ll meet you by the covered pavilion at the bottom of the ramp on the right.

Is there a bathroom on the boat?

We recommend you use the facilities on land before departure. There are public restrooms near the top of Ramp 2 and Ramp 4 by the main road. For urgent needs when we are out on the water, we do have a small head (bathroom) on board the Seabird.

What is the difference between the one and two hour tours?

Both tours visit Gull Island on one leg of the journey. In addition, both also tour China Poot Bay (tidal dependent) or Peterson Bay.

The two hour tour has more flexibility for additional destinations based on passenger interests and recent wildlife sightings, as well as a possible cruise through the historic Halibut Cove.

Who will be my captain?

Its a fair bet that you’ll have Lindsey or Davey behind the helm. However we also work with a number of reputable captains around the harbor for the occasional weekend (or weekday) off.

What will we see?

Our Kachemak Bay is a stopover for so many amazing creatures including sea otters, harbor seals, bald eagles, puffins, and many more feathered and furry creatures.

What if the weather is bad?

Weather is constantly changing out on the water. We do our very best to make decisions based on the safety comfort of everyone onboard. If your captain determines the weather is too bad for your outing, trust them. We will give as early of a heads up as possible. Weather cancellations will be offered a spot for a different day, and if there isn’t one that works you’ll receive a full refund.
